日本語訳
【表現・文法】
observe : 「守る」という意味もある。「観察する」と覚えていたが「守る」という意味もあるか。このようなところが英語の難しさであろう。
all the more : だからこそ一層 というような意味
I like him all the better for his faults.
（彼には欠点があるからこそ、かえって一層私は彼が好きだ）
however able（どんなに能力があっても） however renowend（どんなに有名であっても） ：難しい表現だと私は思う。
however humble it is, there is no place like home.
（どんなに粗末でも我が家ほど良いところはない）という表現の変形であろう
organic growth : これにどのような日本語を当てるか、迷った。訳本によると「有機的生産物」と訳しているものもある。長い年月をかけて、たくさんの武士の生涯を通じて少しずつ形成されてきたものが武士道である、と新渡戸は述べているのであろう。
「現代英文訓読法」ということで英文を区切り日本語訳を私なりにつけているが、それが絶対的なものではない。読者諸兄はその都度、適当な訳を各々考えていただきたい。
